Youth Chat is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing young Australians with
confidential and free social support. Leveraging cutting-edge technology and offering
services in 135 languages, Youth Chat aims to ensure no young person feels isolated due to
language barriers or lack of access to resources. Aligning its mission with the Sustainable
Development Goals, Youth Chat contributes to a global effort to create a more inclusive,
healthy, and sustainable future for all.

In a significant step towards promoting global well-being, reducing inequalities, and
fostering sustainable communities, Youth Chat is now actively seeking financial support,
donations, and corporate partnerships to extend its reach and impact.

Initially launched in Australia, with the proper support, it will launch in APAC and then other
regions.

This initiative is aligned explicitly with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 10
(Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17
(Partnerships for the Goals), initially offering young Australians confidential, free social
support in 135 languages.

Youth Chat service directly responds to the urgent need for accessible mental health
support, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility to essential services for all, regardless of
linguistic or cultural background.

The Gap:

Currently, no major Australian mental health or wellbeing service offers comprehensive
multilingual support for youth where English is a second language. This leaves a significant
portion of CALD youth without adequate support, contributing to feelings of isolation and
unmet mental health needs.

Evidence of need

● Mental health problems in youth have gone up by 50% in the last 15 years.
● 3.2million young people make up the Australian population as of 2023.
● 47% of Australian Youth are first or second-generation migrants.
● 0 support services offer text-based multilingual support
● 1/10 – the number of Australian Youth that prefer to call vs text

Solution:

Youth Chat aims to bridge the communication gap by providing mental health and wellbeing
support in multiple languages, making it accessible to CALD youth. The platform not only
offers a service but also integrates a co-design and community-centric approach, involving
CALD youth in the development and delivery of services through employment and upskilling
opportunities.

Metrics:

Will be able to measure call rates and flow including languages

Sentiment Analysis:

Currently, there is a major gap in data among CALD youth, especially within the Mental
Wellbeing landscape. Sentiment analysis will be a major element in providing existing
service clarity of treatment and support.

Desired Outcome

Youth Chat aims to secure financial support, donations, and corporate partnerships to
expand its multilingual mental health services across Australia and eventually the APAC
region. This support will enable Youth Chat to enhance its reach, ensuring that CALD youth
have access to inclusive, confidential, and culturally sensitive mental health support,
thereby reducing isolation and unmet mental health needs.
